The World Bank ranked Hungary 41st in its Doing Business 2009 survey, which assessed 181 national economies.

The report in which Hungary improved nine places, noted that Hungary has significantly reduced the time period for both starting a business and registering property, with the latter now taking an average of 17 days, from 63 last year. Singapore was placed first for the third year running, while New Zealand was second and the US third. Hungary was ranked at number 111 in the paying taxes category, one of ten that the World Bank considers when making its assessment.

Doing Business-2009 is the 6th annual report reflecting improvement of business activity and the legislation obstacles in this field. Business activity includes 10 stages: beginning of operation, construction permission, admission to work, property registration, credit issuing, tax paying, border trade, agreement fulfilment and cancellation of business activity.
